Sergey Stanovkin was born in 1966 in Krasnoyarsk, Russia and he graduated from Moscow physical technical institute (University), faculty of aero-physics and space researches in 1989. In 1990 he graduated from the Academy of Foreign Trade in Moscow, faculty of international trade. After that, he worked in the United Kingdom as marketing consultant.
In 1999 Sergey was elected a Member of the Institute of Directors in the United Kingdom and in 1999 he became Member of Board of DARS Consulting (UK) Ltd., Oxford, UK.
Since 2000 Sergey was responsible for DARS Consulting (UK) Ltd. operations in Russia and CIS-countries and in 2007 was appointed Head of Representative office of BBC World News in Russia. Since 2009 Sergey was elected to the board of Directors of DVTG/Far Eastern Transport Group.
